MO THE BLACK

Our home on wheels is a Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 (906, L2, 2012) – a self-built camper van that takes us across mountains, deserts and dusty backroads.

This van is part of a longer story. Over the years we’ve owned and built several vans, because Juris simply loves the process of building them. Each one teaches something new, and each one gets a little better.

But one thing never changes – the name.

Why it’s called MO THE BLACK

The name MO comes from our very first Sprinter.

That van was black and its license plate had the letters MO. Somehow the name stuck. Friends started calling the van MO, our Instagram followers knew us as MO, and eventually it simply became part of our identity.

Today the van is no longer black – it’s now a khaki green Sprinter with a different license plate – but the name stayed.

After so many years, it would feel strange to call it anything else.

The Van

Our current van is a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter 906 L2 with 4×4, built to take us far beyond normal roads.

Inside we tried to create a space that feels simple, practical and comfortable for a small traveling family.

The van includes:

– a full bed with side extensions for extra leg room

– a small kitchen with a gas stove

– hot water

– our first ever indoor shower

– a heating system for colder nights

– 115 liters of fresh water

– plenty of storage for life on the road

And of course, a sleeping arrangement that includes Flera, who strongly believes that the bed belongs to her as well.

Power & Off-Grid

To stay off-grid we rely on a simple but reliable setup.

– 430W solar panel

– battery system

– inverter

– 115L water tank

In theory we could easily stay somewhere remote for about a week. In practice we rarely do – we simply love moving and discovering new places.

Built for Dusty Roads

The 4×4 capability is not just for looks.

Juris has always dreamed about exploring remote tracks, deserts and mountain roads, so the van is equipped for that kind of travel.

– off-road tires

– recovery boards

– winch

– proper 4×4 setup

Morocco has been the perfect playground for this dream. Many of our days here include long dusty drives across desert landscapes where normal cars would never go.

Life in the Van

Traveling in a camper van has a very special feeling.

You can see more places in a shorter time, wake up in completely different landscapes every day, and still carry your little home with you wherever you go.

For us it’s the perfect mix of adventure and comfort.

And somehow it never really feels like leaving home – because home simply travels with us.
